Description The issue is related to a buffer overflow in the Samba Web Administration Tool (SWAT) that occurs when decoding base64 data during HTTP basic authentication. This happens due to a lack of proper bounds checking, allowing a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code with a specially crafted request, resulting in a loss of integrity.
Recommendations For Samba versions 3.0.2 through 3.0.4, consider disabling the SWAT service until a patch is available to prevent remote attackers from exploiting the buffer overflow vulnerability. Restrict access to the HTTP basic authentication mechanism to minimize the risk of exploitation.
