Description The issue arises from improper calculations related to the mColors table in the nsBMPDecoder.cpp module, allowing remote attackers to read portions of memory that are uninitialized via a crafted 8-bit bitmap (BMP) file. This can trigger an out-of-bounds read within the heap, potentially causing a denial of service (application crash). The issue can be demonstrated using a CANVAS element.
Recommendations For Mozilla Firefox versions prior to 2.0.0.12, update to version 2.0.0.12 or later. For Thunderbird versions prior to 2.0.0.12, update to version 2.0.0.12 or later. For SeaMonkey versions prior to 1.1.8, update to version 1.1.8 or later.
