Description: The issue allows local users to cause a denial of service, resulting in a system crash. This is achieved by making a SystemParametersInfo call with an improperly terminated pvParam argument using SPI SETDESKWALLPAPER, followed by a SPI GETDESKWALLPAPER SystemParametersInfo call.

Recommendations: For Microsoft Windows XP version SP3, avoid using the SPI SETDESKWALLPAPER and SPI GETDESKWALLPAPER SystemParametersInfo calls with improperly terminated pvParam arguments to prevent a system crash. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
