Microsoft Windows versions prior to the fixed version
Description
The issue arises from improper memory allocation for the destination key associated with a symbolic-link registry key in the Windows kernel. This allows local users to gain privileges via a crafted application. An elevation of privilege vulnerability exists due to the manner in which memory is allocated when extracting a symbolic link from a registry key. An attacker who successfully exploited this issue could run arbitrary code in kernel mode, enabling them to install programs, view, change, or delete data, or create new accounts with full user rights.
