VetorAV:L/AC:L/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Microsoft Windows XP versions SP2 and SP3 Microsoft Windows Server 2003 version SP2 Microsoft Windows Vista versions SP1 and SP2 Microsoft Windows Server 2008 versions Gold, SP2, R2, and R2 SP1 Microsoft Windows 7 versions Gold and SP1
Description A use-after-free issue in the win32k.sys kernel-mode driver allows local users to gain privileges through a crafted application. This is due to incorrect driver object management.
Recommendations For Microsoft Windows XP SP2 and SP3, consider applying configuration changes to restrict access to the win32k.sys driver until a patch is available. For Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP2, restrict access to the win32k.sys driver to minimize the risk of exploitation. For Microsoft Windows Vista SP1 and SP2, consider disabling the win32k.sys driver as a temporary workaround. For Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Gold, SP2, R2, and R2 SP1, avoid using the affected driver object management functionality until the issue is resolved. For Microsoft Windows 7 Gold and SP1, restrict access to the win32k.sys driver to minimize the risk of exploitation.
