Description
The issue is caused by a memory corruption vulnerability, specifically a buffer overflow, allowing remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted Office document. This can occur when the Office software fails to properly handle objects in memory. An attacker who successfully exploits this issue could run arbitrary code in the context of the current user, potentially taking control of the affected system if the user has administrative rights. The estimated number of potentially affected devices worldwide is not specified. To exploit the issue, a user must open a specially crafted file with an affected version of Microsoft Office software.
