Description The issue allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted Office document. This is caused by a buffer overflow in the Microsoft Office software. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could run arbitrary code in the context of the current user. If the current user is logged on with administrative user rights, an attacker could take control of the affected system, then install programs, view, change, or delete data, or create new accounts with full user rights. Exploitation of the issue requires that a user open a specially crafted file with an affected version of Microsoft Office software.

For Microsoft Word 2013 RT SP1, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk. For Microsoft Word Viewer, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk. For Microsoft Word Automation Services on SharePoint Server 2010 SP2, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk. For Microsoft Word Automation Services on SharePoint Server 2013 SP1, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk. For Microsoft Office Web Apps 2010 SP2, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk. For Microsoft Office Web Apps Server 2013 SP1, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk. As a temporary workaround, consider avoiding the use of crafted Office documents until a patch is available.
