CVE-2016-3382

CVSS v2.0

9.3

Alta

VetorAV:N/AC:M/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 9 through 11 Microsoft Edge (affected versions not specified)
Description The issue is caused by a buffer overflow in memory, allowing a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via a specially crafted web site. The scripting engines in the affected browsers, including the Chakra JavaScript engine, are vulnerable to memory corruption when handling objects in memory. This could enable an attacker to execute arbitrary code in the context of the current user. If the current user has administrative rights, an attacker could take control of the affected system, install programs, view, change, or delete data, or create new accounts with full user rights.
Recommendations For Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 9 through 11: Update to a version that is not affected by this issue. For Microsoft Edge: At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the Chakra JavaScript engine or disabling the eval function until a patch is available.
