CVE-2016-8636

CVSS v3.1

7.8

Alta

VetorAV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel versions prior to 4.9.10
Description The issue is caused by an integer overflow in the mem check range function, which can be exploited by local users to cause a denial of service, obtain sensitive information from kernel memory, or possibly have other unspecified impacts. This can be achieved via a write or read request involving the "RDMA protocol over infiniband" technology.
Recommendations For Linux kernel versions prior to 4.9.10, update to version 4.9.10 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the mem check range function in the rxe mr.c file until a patch is available. Avoid using the "RDMA protocol over infiniband" technology in the affected kernel versions to minimize the risk of exploitation.
