CVE-2017-5203

CVSS v3.1

9.8

Crítica

VetorAV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions tcpdump versions prior to 4.9.0
Description The issue is related to buffer overflows in tcpdump, specifically in the BOOTP parser and the ISO CLNS parser. The buffer overflow in the BOOTP parser occurs in the bootp print() function in print-bootp.c. The ISO CLNS parser in print-isoclns.c has a clnp print() function that is vulnerable due to improper bounds checking. This could allow a remote attacker to send an overly long argument, causing a buffer overflow that may lead to arbitrary code execution on the system or cause the application to crash.
Recommendations For versions prior to 4.9.0, update to version 4.9.0 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the bootp print() and clnp print() functions until a patch is available. Avoid using the affected tcpdump functionality with untrusted input until the issue is resolved.
