Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel versions prior to 4.12
Description
A flaw was found in the way the KVM module processed the trap flag (TF) bit in EFLAGS during emulation of the syscall instruction. This leads to a debug exception (#DB) being raised in the guest stack. A user or process inside a guest could use this flaw to potentially escalate their privileges inside the guest.
Recommendations
For Linux kernel versions prior to 4.12, update to version 4.12 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the KVM module to minimize the risk of exploitation.
