CVE-2017-16536

CVSS v2.0

7.2

Alta

VetorAV:L/AC:L/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel versions through 4.13.11
Description The issue is related to the cx231xx usb probe function in the Linux kernel, which can be exploited by local users via a crafted USB device. This can cause a denial of service, resulting in a NULL pointer dereference and system crash, or possibly have other unspecified impacts.
Recommendations For Linux kernel versions through 4.13.11, as a temporary workaround, consider disabling the cx231xx usb probe function until a patch is available. Restrict access to the vulnerable module to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid using specially prepared USB devices with the affected kernel versions until the issue is resolved. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
