Description:
The issue is related to the
bfd xcoff read ar hdr function in the BFD library, which is part of GNU Binutils. This function has a buffer data reading issue that allows an out of bounds stack read. A remote attacker can exploit this by using a specially crafted COFF image file, potentially gaining access to confidential data, disrupting data integrity, and causing a denial of service.Recommendations:
For GNU Binutils versions 2.29 and earlier, consider updating to a version that includes a fix for this issue, as no specific workaround is provided for these versions.
