Description:
The issue is related to an integer overflow in the display debug frames function of the dwarf.c component in GNU Binutils. This allows a remote attacker to potentially access sensitive data, compromise data integrity, and cause a denial of service using a specially crafted ELF file. The exploitation may also lead to a heap-based buffer over-read and application crash.
Recommendations:
For GNU Binutils version 2.29.1, consider disabling the display debug frames function as a temporary workaround until a patch is available. Restrict access to the dwarf.c component to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid using specially crafted ELF files that could trigger the integer overflow.
