Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Requests versions prior to 2.20.0
Description
The issue is related to a lack of mechanism for storing registration data in the Python Requests library, which handles HTTP requests. This can allow a remote attacker to gain access to confidential data by exploiting the vulnerability. Specifically, when the Requests package receives a same-hostname https-to-http redirect, it sends an HTTP Authorization header to an http URI, making it easier for attackers to discover credentials by sniffing the network.
Recommendations
For versions prior to 2.20.0, update to version 2.20.0 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting the use of the
Authorization header in HTTP requests to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid using the Authorization header in the affected API endpoint until the issue is resolved.Exploit
