Description
The issue is related to errors in array indexing, which can be exploited by sending malformed XML data to the
deviceprogrammer/firehose endpoint, potentially allowing an out-of-bounds buffer write. This could enable an attacker to fill a region of memory with 0x20. The vulnerability may allow an attacker to cause a buffer overflow in memory using malicious XML data in the firehose directory.Recommendations
For Qualcomm Snapdragon versions MDM9206, MDM9607, MDM9615, MDM9640, MDM9650, MDM9655, MSM8996AU, SD 210/SD 212/SD 205, SD 410/12, SD 425, SD 427, SD 430, SD 435, SD 450, SD 600, SD 615/16/SD 415, SD 617, SD 625, SD 650/52, SD 820, SD 820A, SD 835, SD 845, SD 850, SDA660, SDM429, SDM439, SDM630, SDM632, SDM636, SDM660, SDX20, Snapdragon High Med 2016, consider restricting access to the
deviceprogrammer/firehose endpoint to minimize the risk of exploitation.
As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the use of XML data in the firehose directory until a patch is available.
Avoid using malicious XML data in the firehose directory to prevent potential buffer overflow attacks.
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.Improper Validation of Array Index
