Description An issue in the Binary File Descriptor (BFD) library causes an invalid memory address dereference in the read reloc function in reloc.c. This leads to a segmentation fault and application crash, resulting in denial of service. The vulnerability is due to missing bfd clear contents bounds checking.
Recommendations For GNU Binutils version 2.31, consider applying bounds checking to the bfd clear contents function to prevent invalid memory address dereferences. As a temporary workaround, restrict the use of the read reloc function in reloc.c to minimize the risk of exploitation.
