Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description
The issue is related to a memory leak in the Linux kernel's implementation of the ir lirc unregister handler for the drivers/media/rc/ir-lirc-codec.ko module. An attacker can exploit this issue by repeatedly loading and unloading the LIRC module, causing a denial of service in the operating system. The problem arises because the
ir lirc register function, called when the module is loaded, allocates a buffer drv->rbuf that is not freed in the ir lirc unregister function when the module is unloaded.Recommendations
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
