CVE-2018-18484

CVSS v2.0

7.8

Alta

VetorAV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:C
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions GNU Binutils version 2.31
Description An issue in cp-demangle.c in GNU libiberty, distributed in GNU Binutils, causes stack exhaustion due to recursive stack frames in the C++ demangling functions. This is related to uncontrolled recursion, which can be exploited by a remote attacker to cause a denial of service.
Recommendations For GNU Binutils version 2.31, consider disabling the cplus demangle type, d bare function type, and d function type functions as a temporary workaround until a patch is available. Restrict access to the demangling functions to minimize the risk of exploitation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
