Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions:
Linux kernel versions prior to 6.14.0-rc1+
Description:
The issue concerns the Linux kernel, specifically the sockmap and vsock components. It involves a scenario where an unconnected socket may lose its assigned transport, leading to a null pointer dereference. This can occur when a listening vsock has a transport assigned during a failed connect attempt. The problem is handled by modifying sockmap to only allow connected sockets, aligning with the behavior for AF INET and AF UNIX.
Recommendations:
For Linux kernel versions prior to 6.14.0-rc1+, update to a version that includes the fix for this issue.
As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the vsock component until a patch is available.
Avoid using the
vsock read skb function in the affected kernel versions until the issue is resolved.Exploit
