CVE-2023-53428

CVSS v3.1

5.5

Média

VetorAV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Linux kernel (affected versions not specified)
Description The Linux kernel powercap subsystem contains a flaw related to parsing zones. The current implementation uses a recursive algorithm to walk the zones, which can lead to a kernel stack overflow when processing a deeply nested hierarchy of zones. This issue arises because the platform returns available zones without a well-defined order, requiring the driver to traverse the zone hierarchy from the root. Replacing the recursive approach with an iterative one, supported by a dynamically allocated stack-like data structure, resolves this issue.
Recommendations At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
