Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Systems utilizing WebSocket endpoints for communication with charging stations via the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) (affected versions not specified)
Description
WebSocket endpoints lack proper authentication mechanisms, allowing attackers to perform unauthorized station impersonation and manipulate data sent to the backend. An unauthenticated attacker can connect to the OCPP WebSocket endpoint using a known or discovered charging station identifier and then issue or receive OCPP commands as a legitimate charger. This can lead to privilege escalation, unauthorized control of charging infrastructure, and corruption of charging network data reported to the backend. The issue pertains to a critical security flaw in systems utilizing WebSocket endpoints for communication with charging stations.
Recommendations
Ensure secure WebSocket authentication protocols to prevent unauthorized access and manipulation of charging station data.
