Description Dovecot’s SQL-based authentication mechanism can be bypassed when the auth username chars setting is cleared by an administrator. This allows an attacker to bypass authentication for any user and perform user enumeration. No publicly available exploits are known at this time. The vulnerable component is the SQL authentication module. The vulnerable parameter is auth username chars.
Recommendations Do not clear the auth username chars setting. If clearing the setting is unavoidable, install the latest fixed version. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
