7.6
High
| Vector | AV:N/AC:H/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
SGI IRIX versions 6.3 through 6.4
Description
The issue allows remote attackers to execute commands by providing a trojan horse descriptor file. This can be achieved through either a
runtask or runexec descriptor file, which is used to execute a System Manager Task when the user's Mailcap entry supports the x-sgi-task or x-sgi-exec type.Recommendations
For SGI IRIX versions 6.3 through 6.4, consider restricting the use of the
runtask and runexec descriptor files to minimize the risk of exploitation. Additionally, review and modify Mailcap entries to avoid supporting the x-sgi-task or x-sgi-exec types unless absolutely necessary. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability. Found an issue in the description? Have something to add? Feel free to write us 👾
