| Vector | AV:L/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:P |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Red Hat Linux version 5.1
Description
The issue allows local users to cause a denial of service by crashing the system. This is achieved by redirecting the stdout to the kernel, exploiting the fact that dumpreg opens /dev/mem with O RDWR access.
Recommendations
For Red Hat Linux version 5.1, consider restricting access to the dumpreg utility to prevent unauthorized users from exploiting this issue. As a temporary workaround, avoid using dumpreg to open /dev/mem with O RDWR access until a patch is available.
