Description
The issue affects the dump package in Red Hat Linux, allowing for potential disruption of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected information. Exploitation can be done remotely. A buffer overflow in the restore program, part of the dump package, enables local users to execute arbitrary commands via a long tape name.
Recommendations
For dump package versions 0.4b17 and earlier: update to a version later than 0.4b17 to resolve the buffer overflow issue.
For dump-static-0.4b19, dump-0.4b19, and rmt-0.4b19: At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
