VectorAV:L/AC:L/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions SQL Server (affected versions not specified) Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE) (affected versions not specified)
Description The issue is related to the xp displayparamstmt function, which does not properly restrict the length of a buffer before calling the srv paraminfo function in the SQL Server API for Extended Stored Procedures (XP). This allows an attacker to cause a denial of service or execute arbitrary commands.
Recommendations For SQL Server, update to a version that includes a fix for this issue. For Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE), update to a version that includes a fix for this issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the xp displayparamstmt function until a patch is available. Restrict access to the srv paraminfo function in the SQL Server API for Extended Stored Procedures (XP) to minimize the risk of exploitation.
