Description
The issue arises from the xp proxiedmetadata function not properly restricting the length of a buffer before calling the srv paraminfo function in the SQL Server API for Extended Stored Procedures (XP). This allows an attacker to cause a denial of service or execute arbitrary commands.
Recommendations
For Microsoft SQL Server 2000, update to a version that includes the fix for this issue.
For Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE), update to a version that includes the fix for this issue.
As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the xp proxiedmetadata function until a patch is available.
