| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Microsoft Windows Media Player versions prior to 8
Description
The issue is related to buffer overflows in Microsoft Windows Media Player, allowing remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands. This can be achieved via a long version tag in an .ASX file or a long banner tag.
Recommendations
For Microsoft Windows Media Player versions prior to 8, update to version 8 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to .ASX files or disabling the processing of version and banner tags until a patch is available.
