Description
A buffer overflow issue exists, allowing local users to gain root privileges via a long command line argument when Snes9x is installed setuid root.
Recommendations
For Snes9x version 1.37, consider removing the setuid root installation to prevent exploitation until a patch is available. As a temporary workaround, restrict access to Snes9x to minimize the risk of unauthorized privilege escalation. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this issue.
