| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
gnuchess versions 5.02 and earlier
Description
A buffer overflow issue exists, potentially allowing local or remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a long command, especially if gnuchess is modified or used in a networked environment contrary to its design as a single-user application.
Recommendations
For gnuchess versions 5.02 and earlier, consider restricting the application's use to its intended single-user capacity to minimize the risk of exploitation. As a temporary workaround, avoid using long commands that could trigger the buffer overflow until a fix is available. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this issue.
