CVSS v2.0
7.2
High
| Vector | AV:L/AC:L/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
OpenBSD versions 2.9 through 3.0
Description
The issue allows local users to potentially gain root privileges through calls to mail in cron, due to the processing of a tilde (~) escape character in a message even when not in interactive mode.
Recommendations
For OpenBSD versions 2.9 through 3.0, consider disabling the use of the tilde (~) escape character in mail processing until a fix is available. Restrict access to the mail function in cron to minimize the risk of exploitation.
