CVSS v2.0
7.5
High
| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions:
Microsoft SQL Server versions 7.0 through 2000
Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE) version 1.0
Microsoft Desktop Engine (MSDE) version 2000
Description:
A buffer overflow issue exists in the Database Console Command (DBCC) of Microsoft SQL Server, allowing attackers to execute arbitrary code. This is achieved by providing a long SourceDB argument in a non-SQL OLEDB data source, such as FoxPro.
Recommendations:
For Microsoft SQL Server versions 7.0 through 2000, consider restricting the use of the DBCC command until a fix is available.
For Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE) version 1.0 and Microsoft Desktop Engine (MSDE) version 2000, avoid using long SourceDB arguments in non-SQL OLEDB data sources to minimize the risk of exploitation.
