CVSS v2.0
5.0
Medium
| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:P |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Apache mod dav versions prior to 2.0.42
Description
The issue is related to the handling of versioning hooks in mod dav, which can be exploited by remote attackers to cause a denial of service. This can be achieved by sending a carefully crafted request that may cause the child process handling the connection to crash, resulting in CPU consumption in a preforked multi-processing module. The issue is more likely to result in a denial of service in environments where a threaded process model is in use.
Recommendations
For Apache mod dav versions prior to 2.0.42, update to version 2.0.42 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to mod dav to minimize the risk of exploitation.
