CVE-2002-2206
CVSS v2.0
7.8
High
| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:C |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions:
Norton AntiVirus version 2001
Description:
The issue concerns the POP3 proxy service, specifically the POPROXY.EXE component, which can be exploited by local users to cause a denial of service. This is achieved by providing a long username that includes multiple /localhost entries, resulting in CPU consumption and a crash.
Recommendations:
For Norton AntiVirus version 2001, consider restricting access to the POP3 proxy service or limiting the length of usernames to prevent exploitation until a fix is available. As a temporary workaround, avoid using long usernames with multiple /localhost entries in the POPROXY.EXE service.
