CVE-2002-2253
CVSS v2.0
10
High
| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:C/I:C/A:C |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions:
Cyrus Sieve / libSieve versions 2.1.2 and earlier
Description:
The issue is caused by multiple buffer overflows that allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code. This can be achieved through various means, including a long header name, a long IMAP flag, or a script that generates a large number of errors, resulting in an overflow of the error string.
Recommendations:
For versions 2.1.2 and earlier, update to a version later than 2.1.2 to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the Cyrus Sieve / libSieve functionality until a patch is available. Avoid using long header names, long IMAP flags, or scripts that may generate a large number of errors in the affected versions.
