| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
rsync versions prior to 2.5.7
Description
The issue is related to a heap-based buffer overflow in rsync when running in server mode, allowing remote attackers to execute arbitrary code and possibly escape the chroot jail. This can lead to a violation of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected information. The exploitation of this issue can be performed remotely.
Recommendations
For versions prior to 2.5.7, update to version 2.5.7 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the rsync server to minimize the risk of exploitation.
