CVE-2002-1561

CVSS v2.0

5.0

Medium

VectorAV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:P
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions Windows 2000 Windows NT 4.0 Windows XP
Description The issue allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service by sending a malformed packet to the RPC Endpoint Mapper at TCP port 135, triggering a null pointer dereference. This results in the RPC service being disabled.
Recommendations For Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0, and Windows XP, consider restricting access to TCP port 135 to minimize the risk of exploitation. As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the RPC Endpoint Mapper until a patch is available. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
