Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions:
Microsoft Windows (affected versions not specified)
Description:
The issue is related to multiple integer overflows in a Microsoft Windows DirectX MIDI library (QUARTZ.DLL). This allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a MIDI (.mid) file. The exploitation can occur through two main scenarios: (1) a MIDI file with a large length for a Text or Copyright string, or (2) a MIDI file with a large number of tracks. Both scenarios lead to a heap-based buffer overflow.
Recommendations:
At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
