CVE-2003-0645
CVSS v2.0
4.6
Medium
| Vector | AV:L/AC:L/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions:
man-db versions 2.3.12 through 2.4.1
Description:
The issue allows local users to potentially gain privileges due to the software's handling of user-controlled DEFINE directives from the ~/.manpath file, even when running setuid.
Recommendations:
For man-db versions 2.3.12 through 2.4.1, consider restricting access to the ~/.manpath file to minimize the risk of exploitation. As a temporary workaround, avoid using the DEFINE directives in the ~/.manpath file until a patch is available. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.
