| Vector | AV:N/AC:H/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:P |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Yahoo! Messenger version 5.6
Description
A buffer overflow issue allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service, resulting in a crash, by sending a file request with a large number of "%" characters after the Yahoo ID.
Recommendations
For Yahoo! Messenger version 5.6, consider avoiding the use of the sendfile feature with untrusted sources until a fix is available. As a temporary workaround, restrict the number of "%" characters allowed in file send requests to prevent the buffer overflow.
