CVE-2004-0500
CVSS v2.0
7.5
High
| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Gaim versions prior to 0.82
Description
The issue is related to a buffer overflow in the MSN protocol plugins, specifically in object.c and slp.c files, which can be triggered by MSNSLP protocol messages that are not properly handled in a strncpy call. This can lead to a denial of service and potentially allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code.
Recommendations
For versions prior to 0.82, update to version 0.82 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider disabling the MSN protocol plugins until a patch is available. Restrict access to the MSNSLP protocol to minimize the risk of exploitation.
