CVE-2004-1043
CVSS v2.0
5.0
Medium
| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:P/A:N |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions:
Internet Explorer version 6.0
Description:
The issue allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code by using the "Related Topics" command in the Help ActiveX Control to open a Help popup window containing a malicious file in the local zone and injecting Javascript to be executed. This can be achieved by saving a .HTA file to the local system, utilizing the ADODB recordset.
Recommendations:
For Internet Explorer version 6.0, consider disabling the Help ActiveX Control (hhctrl.ocx) as a temporary workaround until a patch is available. Restrict access to the local zone to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid using the "Related Topics" command in the Help ActiveX Control until the issue is resolved.
