Description:
The issue is related to a buffer overflow in the POP3 server, which can be triggered by remote attackers. This is achieved by sending an APOP USER command with a long second parameter, specifically the
digest. The impact of this issue includes the potential for a denial of service (crash) and possibly the execution of arbitrary code.Recommendations:
For 1st Class Mail Server version 4.0, consider disabling the APOP USER command or restricting access to it until a patch is available to prevent potential exploitation.
