7.5

| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Quake II server versions before R1Q2
Description
The issue is related to a buffer overflow in the command-packet processing of the Quake II server, which can be exploited by remote attackers. This can lead to a denial of service, causing the server to crash, and potentially allow the execution of arbitrary code. The exploitation occurs via a packet with a long
cmd args buffer.Recommendations
For Quake II server versions before R1Q2, update to version R1Q2 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the command-packet processing functionality to minimize the risk of exploitation.
