CVE-2005-3709
CVSS v2.0
7.5
High
| Vector | AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Apple Quicktime versions prior to 7.0.4
Description
The issue is related to an integer underflow in the handling of TGA image files, specifically with the Color Map Entry Size. This can lead to a denial of service (crash) and potentially allow the execution of arbitrary code. The problem arises from the failure to properly validate certain boundaries and integer fields within TGA files, resulting in buffer overflows. An attacker can exploit this by crafting a special file to cause arbitrary code execution, leading to a loss of integrity.
Recommendations
For Apple Quicktime versions prior to 7.0.4, update to version 7.0.4 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider avoiding the use of TGA image files until the update is applied. Restrict access to potentially malicious TGA files to minimize the risk of exploitation.
