2.1
Low
| Vector | AV:L/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:P/A:N |
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
NetBSD versions 2.1 and earlier
Linux versions 2.6.15 and earlier
Description
The issue allows local users to bypass time setting restrictions and set the clock backwards by exploiting the securelevels implementation. This is achieved by setting the clock ahead to the maximum unixtime value, which then wraps around to the minimum value, and then setting it ahead to the desired time.
Recommendations
For NetBSD versions 2.1 and earlier, consider upgrading to a newer version to resolve the issue.
For Linux versions 2.6.15 and earlier, consider upgrading to a newer version to resolve the issue.
As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the
settimeofday() function to minimize the risk of exploitation.Exploit
