CVE-2006-2083

CVSS v2.0

7.5

High

VectorAV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P
Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions: rsync versions prior to 2.6.8
Description: The issue is related to an integer overflow in the receive xattr function in the extended attributes patch (xattr.c) for rsync. This might allow attackers to execute arbitrary code via crafted extended attributes that trigger a buffer overflow. The vulnerability can be exploited remotely and may lead to a breach of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected information.
Recommendations: For versions prior to 2.6.8, update to version 2.6.8 or later to resolve the issue. As a temporary workaround, consider restricting access to the receive xattr function in the xattr.c patch until a patch is available.
