Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions:
Microsoft Excel versions 2000 through 2003
Microsoft Office version 2000 SP3
Description:
A remote code execution issue exists in Excel, related to a malformed record. This allows an attacker to execute arbitrary code by constructing a specially crafted Excel file. The issue leads to memory corruption due to a stack-based buffer overflow when an Excel file with a modified length value is processed.
Recommendations:
For Microsoft Excel versions 2000 through 2003, update to a newer version to mitigate the risk.
For Microsoft Office version 2000 SP3, consider applying security patches or updates to resolve the issue.
As a temporary workaround, consider restricting the use of Excel files from untrusted sources until a patch is available.
