Name of the Vulnerable Software and Affected Versions
Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6.0 on Windows XP SP2
Description
The issue allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service, resulting in an application crash. This is achieved by calling the
stringToBinary function of the CEnroll.CEnroll.2 ActiveX object with a long second argument. The argument triggers an invalid memory access inside the SysAllocStringLen function.Recommendations
For Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6.0 on Windows XP SP2, consider disabling the
CEnroll.CEnroll.2 ActiveX object as a temporary workaround to minimize the risk of exploitation. Avoid using the stringToBinary function with long arguments in the affected ActiveX object until the issue is resolved. At the moment, there is no information about a newer version that contains a fix for this vulnerability.Exploit
